Social Media Login for Subscribers

GovDelivery Communications Cloud's Social Login capability allows citizens to use their social login credentials to create a Communications Cloud subscriber account.

By leveraging Social Login, organizations can:

  • Accelerate the sign up process
  • Reduce incomplete subscriptions and abandonment
  • Simplify the subscription process for returning constituents
  • Increase completion of subscriber data

When Social Login is enabled, potential subscribers can create a Communications Cloud account using:

  1. An email address
  2. Facebook credentials
  3. Google credentials
  4. Yahoo credentials

Subscriber Login via Facebook

The following steps outline the process for subscribers who wish to login via their Facebook account:

  1. New Login: The subscriber opts to create an account using his/her existing Facebook account. The subscriber clicks on the Facebook button.
  2. Login to Facebook: If the subscriber is not logged into Facebook, he/she is prompted to enter their Facebook email and password. This grants Communications Cloud permission to use the Facebook login credentials to create a Communications Cloud Account. Communications Cloud captures the subscriber's Facebook-verified email address.
  3. Confirm Permission: If the subscriber is logged into Facebook, he/she is prompted to allow Communications Cloud access to their Facebook account. This grants Communications Cloud permission to use the Facebook login credentials to create a Communications Cloud Account. Communications Cloud captures the subscriber's Facebook-verified email address.
  4. Quick Subscribe: After confirming the Facebook account, the subscriber is directed to the Quick Subscribe page. Subscriber can select the categories and/or topics that they want to receive updates about.

Subscriber Login via Google

The following steps outline the process for subscribers who wish to login via their Google account:

  1. New Login: The subscriber opts to create an account using his/her existing Google account. The subscriber clicks on the Google button.
  2. Login to Google: If the subscriber is not logged into Google, he/she is prompted to enter their Google email and password.
  3. Confirm Permission: The subscriber is prompted to grant Communications Cloud permission to use the Google login credentials to create a Communications Cloud Account. The subscriber clicks Allow. Communications Cloud captures the subscriber's Google-verified email address.
  4. Quick Subscribe: After confirming the Google account, the subscriber is directed to the Quick Subscribe page. Subscriber can select the categories and/or topics that they want to receive updates about.

Subscriber Login via Yahoo

The following steps outline the process for subscribers who wish to login via their Yahoo account: 

  1. New Login: The subscriber opts to create an account using his/her existing Yahoo account. The subscriber clicks on the Yahoo button.
  2. Login to Yahoo: If the subscriber is not logged into Yahoo, he/she is prompted to enter their Yahoo email and password.
  3. Confirm Permission: The subscriber is prompted to grant Communications Cloud permission to use the Yahoo login credentials to create a Communications Cloud Account. The subscriber clicks Allow. Communications Cloud captures the subscriber's Yahoo-verified email address.
  4. Quick Subscribe: After confirming the Yahoo account, the subscriber is directed to the Quick Subscribe page. Subscriber can select the categories and/or topics that they want to receive updates about.

Social Login Frequently Asked Questions

Q:  If a subscriber creates an account using a social login (Facebook , Google, or Yahoo), does he/she have to login via the social networking site during subsequent visits to Communications Cloud?

A: If a subscriber attempts to login to Communications Cloud using the email address attached to either a Google or Facebook account, Communications Cloud will prompt them to login via the social network. However, If a social login subscriber sets a password in Communications Cloud, they can login to Communications Cloud using their email and password.

 

Q: Can social login subscribers set a password in Communications Cloud?

A: Yes, they can set a password on the Subscriber Preferences page.

 

Q: If my account has digesting enabled, can social login subscribers set their delivery preferences?

A: Yes, social login subscribers can set their delivery preferences on the Subscriber Preferences page.

 

Q: Can social login subscribers change their email address in Communications Cloud?

A: No. If an account is created via a social network, the subscriber cannot change the email address in Communications Cloud.

 

Q: Does Communications Cloud report on where subscribers originated? I want to know how many subscribers use social login to create Communications Cloud accounts.

A: No, at this time, Communications Cloud does not report on how subscribers create their accounts (via email address or social login). This is a planned enhancement to Communications Cloud's reporting capabilities. Social login subscribers are included in the Subscriber Count report as email subscribers.
