By default, every Campaign has an "Everyone" group that contains every participant who has interacted with or been uploaded to that Campaign so far. You can create additional groups to sort your participants, and reach out to specific subsets of your respondents with ease. You can also upload cell phone numbers to reach out to people from GovDelivery Interactive Text. For more information, see Creating & Editing Groups.
Viewing a Group's Page
When you click on one of your Groups, you'll be taken to that Group's page. That page displays a list of all the Participants in that group, along with some information on each. To view any individual group member's Participant page, click on their phone number or name. Below is a brief explanation of each attribute shown on the Group page.
Each Participant can be assigned a name, either by using a Name question within a Poll or by including a name when uploading a list of phone numbers. For more information on the Name question, see Question Types. For more information on uploading participants, see Creating and Editing Groups.
This column shows the phone number belonging to that Participant. By default, the last four digits of all phone numbers within GovDelivery Interactive Text are masked for privacy. You can still reach out to individual Participants directly using Private Messages. Under certain circumstances, we can unmask phone numbers for account administrators upon request.
This column shows whether or not a participant is currently subscribed to your Campaign. Any Participant who is Subscribed can receive outgoing Polls and Messages from your Campaign. Anyone who is unsubscribed will not receive any outgoing Polls or Messages from you. For more information, see Subscription Status.
This column indicates whether a Participant was added to the Campaign by texting in to a poll, or whether their phone number was uploaded directly to the GovDelivery Interactive Text system. For more information, see Creating and Editing Groups.
This column shows how many individual text responses each participant has provided in response to poll questions. This count does not include Private Message responses.
Creating and Editing Groups
There are two ways to create a Group within GovDelivery Interactive Text: by filtering from past responses, or by uploading a CSV file of phone numbers. To get started, click on Groups in the sidebar of the Campaign Dashboard page. Then click the New Group button at the top right. Give your new Group a name, then you're ready to populate it with Participants.
Choose from Past Respondents
This option allows you to populate a Group based on how your Participants have responded to your survey questions. For example, you could filter people based on their main mode of transportation in a transportation survey. You can also make a Group of people who said "Yes" to a question like, "Would you like to receive text message updates on this project?" so that you know who opted in to follow-up messages.
Clicking the Filter from Past Responses button will bring up a list of all Polls within your current Campaign. You can either check the box next to a certain Poll to select everyone who responded to that Poll, or you can click the Filter button to the right of a certain Poll.
The Filter button will bring up a window with every question in that Poll. You can then check certain responses (usually a Yes or No, or a certain Multiple Choice response) to fill the Group with only those people who responded that way to those Poll questions.
Import a CSV
If you have an existing list of cell phone numbers you would like to send outbound Polls or Messages to, you can upload this list to your GovDelivery Interactive Text account by clicking the Import CSV link on the Group creation page. This will bring up a page with instructions on how to format your upload.
The file for upload must be a two-column CSV (Comma Separated Values) file with no headers. Column 1 must contain phone numbers (in the format +12345678900 or 2345678900) and Column 2 can optionally contain a name to assign to that Participant. For more information on matching names with Participants, see: Participant Names.
When you have a properly formatted CSV file ready, use the Browse button to select the file on your computer, then click Import.
If you created a Group using the Filter from Past Responses option, you can change the filter criteria at any time by clicking Manage Members at the top right of a Group's page.
You can also add members to any existing group by importing a CSV file to that Group. Just browse to a Group's page and click "Import a CSV" at the top right.
Q. Can I add people to a group based on when they responded to a poll?
No, at this time, we do not support automatically filtering participants into groups based on when they texted in, or when they offered a particular response (e.g. respondents from August 2015; students who said they were high school seniors in 2014). This is a popular request and we're tracking it closely.
In the meantime, our support team may be able to help manually configure the groups you need. Please contact our Customer Support team using the link at the bottom of this page.
